How did you hear about the SCRC and when did you join?

I had heard about it from Prakash, who also hung out on the Road Star Forum. He invited me to a meeting when I had come out one week from St. Louis to do some work in our office here. Can't remember what month we joined. I'm not good with remembering anniversaries.

How long have you been riding?

Off and on since I was a kid. Started with mini-bikes, to dirt bikes, then hit the streets at 18. I did take about a 10 year break.

Have you ever taken a motorcycle safety course?

No, but I guess I really should.

What was your first bike?

It was something like a 72 or 74 Honda CB350. Man that thing could do some wheelies ;)

How many bikes have you owned?

This is my 4th. The first new one.

Why do you ride?

Because I can. Kind of like asking a dog why he hangs his head out the window.

Have you ridden with an organized group before?

Yes. Were were members of the Road Raptors RC in Belleville, IL, and I've also ridden as a guest with a lot of other clubs over the years.

What modifications have you done to your bike?

I think it would be easier to tell you what I haven't done.

What accessories do you want to add to your bike?

We need to get some back rests for the new seat we recently got. Then I'd love a bore kit, and some custom paint.

What is your dream bike?

I dream about most all bikes. Building my own bar hopper is my real dream.

What kind of riding do you like to do – straight-aways or twisties?

Really depends on my mood. I think most of us live for the twisties, but then again you can't look around as much as when on a nice flat straigt road.

If you have a nickname, how did you get it?  Tell the truth!

No one really calls me by my forum name, so guess I don't have a story. Give me time though, I'm sure I'll do something stupid someone will brand me for.

What is your favorite riding route?

Haven't been in the area long enough to try them all to pick a favorite. So Far though, the Blackfalls ride has been the most beautiful I've even taken.

Do you ride your bike to work?

I used to almost every day in Illinois. Now that Marcia and I commute together, not near as much as I would like. She looks better without helmet hair.

What is the fastest you’ve ridden?

about 130 or so on my last bike. Got to thinking I'd better slow down, because wearing no helmet or leather wasn't such a bright idea...

What is your favorite time of year to ride?

Early fall, when it is just starting to cool off, and the shadows are getting longer.

Have you ever been down?  If so, how were you hurt and what did you learn from the incident?

Several times on the dirt. Three times on the street. All minor with little damage to me or the bikes. Biggest thing I've learned form the falls was, it hurts bouncing your head off the concrete, and skin heals. I know I should dress for the crash instead of the ride, but life is short, so why be uncomfortable? Probably not my wisest quote though.

Have you ever done an “Iron Butt” ride?

No. That's Mr. Boney Candy-A$$ for you all..

If not, what is the furthest you’ve ridden?

I've done days between 5 and 600 miles, but I'm not that young any more. I need a Couch before I try a longer ride.

What was the worst weather in which you’ve ridden?

Quite a few bad times. Once with pea sized hail. Stopped real fast. Didn't hurt near as bad sitting on the side of the road. This past April I rode out to Front Royal in pretty heavy rain, and about 45 outside. That was one of my stupider ideas...

Do you know how to work on your bike?

I am a firm believer if you're gonna ride, you better know how to fix it. They started out being ridden by guys that tinkered, and I just believe you still need to be that way to ride. I know most just trailer it to the shop now though.

What is your favorite road song?

Not really a song. No music on my bike. Listening to the engine and wind rushing by is the best music in the world
to me.

What was your most adventurous ride?

Probably the nights I didn't remember getting home on the bike. Those were really stupid times. That was a very big part of why I quit riding for about 10 years. I knew I needed to grow up a little before I killed myself or someone else.

What rallies or events do you like to attend?

We really love Hog Rock in Southern IL. We prefer the wilder rallies, without all the commercialism.

Is there someone who rides “two-up” with you?

That would be the lovely wife Marcia.

Off the cuff from Similost…

"There is a saying I'm sure most know, about sliding in sideways all used up. I've always tried to live along the lines of that motto, but this world has gotten too uptight and conformist crazy to live that way without ending up in jail. I feel that if you aren't living to the fullest, you are just existing. At least now I have this group to be with, and hopefully some of the good will rub off on me. I'd sill rather live more a true nomadic biker lifestyle though. I still can't believe I'd be interesting enough to be a featured member of the month. I guess I was the easy mark since I'm pretty new to the club, ;)"
