How did you hear about the SCRC and when did you join?
Found you all on the web.

How long have you been riding?
Three months

Have you ever taken a motorcycle safety course?
Yes, completed basic MC riding course at NVCC Loudoun campus.

What was your first bike?
1996 Yamaha, Virago 1100cc purchased January 15, 2005.

How many bikes have you owned?
One

Why do you ride?
My son invited me to go riding with him as a Father and Son thing. He has a Kawasaki, Vulcan 1600.

Have you ridden with an organized group before?
Yes, with the SOBs (Semites On Bikes) out of Baltimore where my son and I are both members.

What modifications have you done to your bike?
Throttle rocker, and just got new handlebars to replace the not stock ones that are on the Virago now. One of the reasons I loved the Virago was for the shape and feel of the handlebars. Someone had replaced the handlebars on the Virago that I bought, so I am going back to the standard Virago handlebars. I bought them new from Ebay.

What accessories do you want to add to your bike?
The bike came with a small windshield and saddlebags, so for now I am pretty well set. I am thinking about floorboards.

What is your dream bike?
I am still in the romance period with my new honey…1996 Yamaha Virago 1100cc.

What kind of riding do you like to do – straight-aways or twisties?
Definitely TWISTIES.  Up in Carroll County, Maryland, where my son lives there are lots of farms and back roads.

What is your favorite riding route?
Don’t have one yet as I just did my first solo ride on Wednesday, April 6, after getting through the course and getting my license.

Do you ride your bike to work?
Yes, for the first time on April 6.

What is the fastest you’ve ridden?
70 mph

What is your favorite time of year to ride?
All year…if I could just keep my hands warm in the winter.  So far I have determined that 45 degrees is ok but not less than that.

Have you ever been down?  If so, how were you hurt and what did you learn from the incident?
No, and I hope I ride safely and cautiously enough for that not to happen.

Have you ever done an “Iron Butt” ride?
Don’t know what that is …but it sounds painful.

If not, what is the furthest you’ve ridden?
About 55 miles so far.

What was the worst weather in which you’ve ridden?
Took the course in the cold and rain, but glad I did.  It helped me get over the fear of riding in the rain.

Do you know how to work on your bike?
Not really.  I am relying on my son to teach me.

What is your favorite road song?
Born to be Wild.

What was your most adventurous ride?
My first group ride with about 20 riders.  I had only been on a bike about five times before the ride and didn’t know if I would be able to keep up.

What rallies or events do you like to attend?
Love group rides…haven’t done any rallies.

Is there someone who rides “two-up” with you?
Not yet!

Off the cuff from…Roy
“I started out getting into this because my son invited me, as a Father and Son thing.  But, It has become even more than that. It is like a whole new world. And at 61 I am pretty proud and grateful that I have gotten my license and am able to ride. It is exhilarating and…..I LOVE IT!

Looking forward to riding with you all… Thanks for welcoming me into your group.
ViRoyGo”
