How did you hear about the
SCRC and when did you join?
During a
"pick up" ride with some friends they mentioned the
social/riding enjoyment they were having with
Southern Cruiser riding club...so I searched on the
web and joined in 2004.
How long have you been riding?
June 2003.
Like a lot of retired folks (with time on our hands)
we come up with these "goofy" ideas. Actually doing
things we've always wanted to try but have never
done...YET. Enjoy riding so much that I have logged
over 35,000 miles to date.
Have you ever taken a motorcycle
safety course?
Yes, March

already logged ~2000 miles in 2006.
If you have a nickname, how did you
get it? Tell the truth!
Puddleduck
(a/k/a Ron) and myself were on numerous rides
together in 2005 plus an overnight trip during which
he said "For an Ole Fart and GEEZER, you're a real
nice guy" to which I responded "You're not too bad
yourself for a Young Whipper Snapper".
What is your favorite riding route?
Short
distance - The Fall Foliage Ride last November
Long Distance - Tail of the Dragon plus the return
trip up Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive
Do you ride your bike to work?
I'm
retired so does it count if I take my bike to
"PLAY".
What is the fastest you've ridden?
~ 100 mph
on Maine Turnpike. My rule of thumb is speed limit
plus 10 mph unless flow of traffic (bikers / cars /
truckers) is significantly faster...then I will
"speed up to keep up".
What is your favorite time of year
to ride?
FALL -
mid-August through mid-October
Have you ever been down? If so, how
were you hurt and what did you learn from the
incident?
Yes, I
went down twice ~ 25 mph on my first bike (VLX 500
cc). No broken bones but both times came away with
significant bruised body parts and torn clothing.
Accident was a result of 1) inexperience 2) driving
too fast for road conditions 3) line of vision not
focused ahead on road hazards ~ 12 sec away and 4)
riding in a too-high-a-gear ratio.
Have you ever done an "Iron Butt"
ride?
My goal is
to accomplish an iron butt ride in 2006.
If not, what is the furthest you've
ridden?
On several
occasions, I've ridden >600 miles in one day and
>2000 miles in four days
What was the worst weather in which
you've ridden?
6 hours
riding in a major rainstorm along I-81. The past two
years during our return trip from Tail of the
Dragon, hurricanes (Jeanette & Rita) were moving up
the Virginia coast. In a way, it's a memorable
ending to the Dragon experience.
Do you know how to work on your
bike?
No;
however, I found an inexpensive and EXCELLENT
service center (Stonewall Cycle Shop in Front Royal)
that is familiar with Honda bikes.
What is your favorite road song?
Roger
Miller "KING of the ROAD"

Winchester, VA ~ Providencetown, MA ~ St John, CA
(Bay of Fundy) ~ Millinocket, ME ~ White Mountains,

Is there someone who rides "two-up"
with you?
Presently
none; however, Squints may want to ride two up when
he's feeling better?
Off the cuff from... Zippity Doo
Dah Denny
