How did you hear about the SCRC and when did you join?

I was on a ride with Fairfax HOG (Fall Foliage Ride, ’04). A rider told me he usually rides with the Fairfax Southern Cruisers but they didn’t have a ride scheduled that day.  Don’t remember his name, but it stuck in my mind that he highly recommended SCRC and told me there’s a chapter right in Sterling, and that I should check the web site.  I did, and gladly, here I am!

How long have you been riding?

Since May of 1987

Have you ever taken a motorcycle safety course?

Yes, my first solo experience was at the MSF basic course in Loudoun; have taken the ERC many times (a good way to brush up on skills in the spring).

What was your first bike?

In July ’87, a 1985 535 cc Yamaha Virago for less than a year, then got a 1987 ½ Harley Low Rider (sport).  Both candy apple red.

How many bikes have you owned?

Five. Virago, Low Rider, Valkyrie, Gold Wing, Wide Glide.

Why do you ride?

It’s my passion!

Have you ridden with an organized group before?

Yes, LadyRider Club, Gold Wing Road Riders, Honda Riders Club, Manassas HOG, Fairfax HOG, Ron Davis’ benefit rides, PARR, SCRC Maryland, etc.

What modifications have you done to your bike?

Only had to add a windshield to the Harley, the previous owner did everything juuuust right!  Gold Wing…the most (only) exciting thing is the Selective Exhaust System.  Wanna hear me vroom?

What accessories do you want to add to your bike?

Have toyed with the idea of heated grips for years.  A radio for the Harley.

What is your dream bike?

Absolutely felt like I had the ultimate bike until I rode Clutch’s 1800 Gold Wing.  One of these days!

What kind of riding do you like to do – straight-aways or twisties?

Straight-aways.  Psyyyyyche!!!   ;-)

If you have a nickname, how did you get it?  Tell the truth!

LadyGo – the first lady rider I ever met was Wills Shores, the founder of the LadyRider Club.  “LADYGO” was her bike license tag.  When she stopped riding due to arthritis, she “willed” it to me!  I am still flattered.  Speedo – something about a Colonial Beach ride clothing requirement, I think.

What is your favorite riding route?

That’s hard to define – I have sooooo many!  Least favorite was on a ride in Asheville, NC at the Wings Over the Smokies Rally.  I was still getting comfortable riding the Wing, and 2 of us rode all the way up to Chimney Rock.  Going back down was easier than going up.  Single lane road, meeting cars and a big BUS! so twisty I could almost see my tail light!  I didn’t realize at the time that it was a precursor to Teach’s great rides!

Do you ride your bike to work?

I have ridden to DC 2 or 3 times – would rather not.  Commuting cage people scare me!

What is the fastest you’ve ridden?

Is this a trick question?  I’ll claim it’s a typo… “Trying out” a ZX-11 Ninja on Route 28 – no traffic, straight road… saw the dotted line turn solid; glanced down – 135 mph.  On the Valk – 125 mph.  Yes sir, got the needo for speedo totally out of my system, “Honest, Mah Honuh!”

What is your favorite time of year to ride?

Favorite time is any time the temp is 50 degrees or above.

Have you ever been down?  If so, how were you hurt and what did you learn from the incident?

Once on the Low Rider – thought I went through a puddle of “water” in a right turn.  It was oil.  Deep cut on left elbow.  Obvious lesson learned re water/oil rule.  Oh, and that’s what elbow pads are for!  This past July on Wide Glide, on a gravel road – no problem until I made a left turn into driveway that had 8” of new gravel.  When front tire went “squish” I should NOT have applied the front brake.  I knew that!  Deep cut on right elbow.  Never ever apply front brake, and as little back brake as possible, in heavy gravel.  And again with the elbow pads.

Have you ever done an “Iron Butt” ride?

Not yet!  Looking forward to one next year, maybe.

If not, what is the furthest you’ve ridden?

One way, solo, to Myrtle Beach, 483 miles.

What was the worst weather in which you’ve ridden?

All the way home from Myrtle Beach in the pouring down rain!

Do you know how to work on your bike?

Only very minor things; changed the battery in the Gold Wing by myself once.

What is your favorite road song?

Rebel Yell.  (LOL)

What was your most adventurous ride?

Hands down: 2005 SCRC Sport Bike Ride!  Double WOW!

What rallies or events do you like to attend?

All of them.  Never been to a bad rally.

Is there someone who rides “two-up” with you?

My Dad, prior to 2000.  Fond memories.

Off the cuff from LadyGo...

"Shall we ride?! "
