How did you hear about the SCRC and when did you
join?
I lived in Potomac Maryland at the time and a buddy
told me about the SCRC. I was looking for a new
group of friends and wanted to go on some cool
rides. He and I joined the SCRC in Potomac and
stayed there for two years. Then I took over a
company in Reston VA and the commute to and from was
terrible. We decided as a family to move to VA. I
wanted to continue my relationship with SCRC but I
didn't want to have to make the rides up to
Gaithersburg.
So, I figured I needed to meet the NEW people in my
area. What better way than joining the SCRC in
VA!!!
How
long have you been riding?
22-solid years. I haven't been without a bike since
I was 18.
Have you ever taken a motorcycle safety course?
The Marine Corps required me to take it to be able
to drive on base. I took two and haven't since
1993.
What was your first bike?
Yamaha-Virago 1100. It had the old YCOM system.
The first digital-speedometer. It was so cool.
How many bikes have you owned?
Five. All Yamaha cruisers.
Why do you ride?
Freedom. Pure unadulterated freedom. I've had some
of my best business ideas while riding on a bike.
It opens my mind up and allows me to free myself
from the stresses of the world.
Have you ridden with an organized group before?
My first organized ride was with the SCRC in
Potomac. Other than that, just pick up rides with
buddies.
What modifications have you done to your bike?
NAME IT! Engine bore, pipes, bells and whistles.
What accessories do you want to add to your bike?
Lots of leather and chrome.
What is your dream bike?
I thought I was riding it recently but now I'm
thinking of a Harley Heritage classic ST
What kind of riding do you like to do –
straight-aways or twisties?
Definitely twisties. They really make you work your
bike and I like that feeling.
If you have a nickname, how did you get it? Tell
the truth!
My first day at SCRC in Potomac one of my buddies
knew I was in the Marines. He yelled out, "DEVILDOG!"
which is a term of endearment in the Marine's. In
German, it is "Tufell Hundeon" During World war 2,
the Germans were terrified of the Marines and gave
them this nickname. So, my buddy yelled it out and
everyone in the bar who was SCRC was like, "What the
hell is that?!" So, the name stuck. I like it
because it is who I really was for 10 years. A
DevilDog. USMC.
What is your favorite riding route?
I loved all trips into
West Virginia
because of the mountains. The twisties are great but
the scenery is perfect.
Do you ride your bike to work?
Not much, I am a suit and tie kind of guy. Being a
VP of a company doesn't really allow me to let my
hair down much.
What is the fastest you’ve ridden?
I've been around 105 a couple of times but the wind
just about knocks me down. I'm not a fan of pushing
100. My comfort level is around 75-80.
What is your favorite time of year to ride?
I love the fall. It is just beautiful. Plus, the
temperature is perfect.
Have you ever been down? If so, how were you hurt
and what did you learn from the incident?
I have NEVER laid my bike down. I did tip it over
once in a driveway that was full of pebble rocks and
my tire got stuck in them.
Have you ever done an “Iron Butt” ride?
I HATE Iron Butt rides. As it is, I still haven't
found the perfect seat for my big butt. Until then,
I'll never go on one.
If not, what is the furthest you’ve ridden?
I've gone to Sturgis before over three days. That
is about as far a ride I've done.
What was the worst weather in which you’ve ridden?
I think the worst one was in Vermont during the
spring when the temp in the valley was 60 degrees
and on top of the mountain it was about 15. The snow
kept coming down and I couldn't tell whether the
road was wet or just pure black ice.
Do you know how to work on your bike?
Not at all. I'm the true rider and NOT a mechanic.
What is your favorite road song?
Proud Mary by CCR. Yea, I'm a hippie at heart. I
love the 60's and 70's rock and roll.
What was your most adventurous ride?
Sturgis. We didn't hit one highway. All back
roads, going up near Canada and around the lakes.
It was beautiful and we camped out every night.
What rallies or events do you like to attend?
Sturgis, Bike Week in
Cape Cod.
Is there someone who rides “two-up” with you?
Not much, my wife will ride for about 100 miles and
that is it.
Off the cuff from Sean...
"My experience at SCRC Loudoun has been extremely
rewarding. Not just because of the rides. but
because of the people we have met. In addition to
meeting some wonderful folks, Cory and I have
suffered a tragic event which impacted our family in
a horrible way. Without any prompting what so
ever, SCRC Loudoun members joined together, rallied
to the cause of one of their members and did
everything in their power to help out. The money
donated really helped our children get back a lot of
what they had lost. I didn't apply any of the
donations to myself or my wife. Everything went to
the kids. This event truly helped my children get
back on their feet and more importantly, took the
worry off of me from a financial burden standpoint
and I knew the kids were taken care of. Many other
SCRC Chapters donated what they could and it meant a
lot. Robin and Teach were an instrumental part of
our recovery because their direct efforts helped us
bring two new family members into our lives. We had
lost our two dogs in the fire and that was purely
devastating. Robin and Teach's efforts were so
important to us that we ultimately named one of our
new family members Richochette! To this day he
totally lives up to the name. I thank all the SCRC
members for being there in our time of need. I
truly believe I will be a lifetime member and I've
made some friendships here that will last forever.
Thank you all for being such an important part of
our lives."
